Catholic Prayer for the ill
Public Domain: Christ raises Lazarus from his tomb. Etching by R.W. Sievier, 1830, after S. del Piombo via Wellcome Collection.
About This Prayer
This traditional Catholic prayer for the ill asks God the Father to bring comfort, healing, and hope to those who are suffering. It reflects the Christian understanding that illness, while difficult, can be united with Christ’s own suffering and offered for the salvation of the world. The prayer also asks for the grace of patience and perseverance during times of sickness.
The Prayer
God our Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brother/sister <Name>. May all who suffer pain, illness, or disease realize that they have been chosen to be saints and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
