Come Holy Spirit Prayer
The Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created,
and You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
instructed the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

About This Prayer
The Come Holy Spirit Prayer is one of the most treasured invocations in Catholic tradition, with roots reaching back to the ancient Church. Its language draws from Psalm 104:30, which proclaims that the Spirit brings creation to life and renews the earth. The prayer is a plea for the presence of the Spirit to fill hearts, kindle divine love, and impart wisdom. Throughout history, it has been used in councils, gatherings, and liturgies, reflecting the Church’s enduring trust in the Spirit as guide and source of holiness. Short yet profound, it serves as a reminder of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel. Each time this prayer is spoken, it becomes a personal Pentecost, opening the soul to God’s grace and renewal.

When To Pray
The Come Holy Spirit Prayer is often prayed at the beginning of study, prayer, or important tasks, inviting God’s wisdom and clarity. It is especially meaningful before Mass, during Pentecost, and in preparation for Confirmation, when the Church reflects on the Spirit’s gifts of strength, understanding, and courage. In moments of uncertainty, struggle, or discernment, the prayer serves as a simple but powerful way to ask for light and peace. Many Catholics also use it as a morning prayer, offering their day to God’s guidance, or during times of transition, asking for renewal of faith. Whenever it is prayed, it reminds the faithful that the Spirit is always present, empowering them to live with greater holiness, courage, and openness to God’s will.
