The Prayer

Be at peace. Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life; rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise, God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely through all things; and when you cannot stand it, God will carry you in His arms. Do not fear what may happen tomorrow; the same understanding Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day. He will either shield you from suffering or give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

About This Prayer

The St. Francis de Sales prayer Be At Peace, is a call to trust God’s providence and to rest in His care amidst the uncertainties of life. St. Francis wrote often about the peace that comes from surrendering one’s fears and anxieties to God, encouraging believers to place their confidence in Christ rather than in their own strength. This prayer reflects his pastoral heart, reminding us that God’s love is constant and unshakable, no matter what trials come.

When To Pray

Catholics often turn to this prayer during times of anxiety, change, or transition. It is especially fitting when facing an uncertain future, illness, or a major life decision. The prayer can also be prayed daily as a spiritual exercise in surrender, helping the soul to remain grounded in God’s peace even amid turmoil. During Advent and Lent, when Christians reflect on trust and detachment, this prayer offers a powerful reminder of God’s faithful presence.
