Sacred Heart of Jesus Prayer
“Behold this Heart which has so loved men that It has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to testify to Its love.” — Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
About This Prayer
The Sacred Heart of Jesus prayer is a beloved Catholic devotion that honors the divine love, mercy, and compassion of Christ, symbolized by His heart pierced and aflame with love for humanity. This prayer expresses deep reverence, contrition, and a plea for personal transformation. Rooted in centuries of devotion, especially after the revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century, it reflects themes of repentance, divine mercy, and trust in God’s providence. The Sacred Heart is a powerful image of God’s burning love and a refuge for sinners and the suffering.
The Prayer
O most holy Heart of Jesus,
fountain of every blessing,
I adore You, I love You,
and with lively sorrow for my sins,
I offer You this poor heart of mine.
Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Your will.
Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You.
Protect me in the midst of danger;
comfort me in my afflictions;
give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs,
Your blessing on all that I do,
and the grace of a holy death.
Within Your Heart I place my every care.
In every need let me come to You
with humble trust, saying:
Heart of Jesus, help me. Amen.

When To Pray
The sacred heart of Jesus prayer is often prayed on Fridays, especially First Fridays, in reparation for sin and in gratitude for Christ’s love. It is ideal for moments of personal sorrow, seeking healing or help in trials, or simply as a daily act of trust and love. It is also traditionally prayed during the Novenas to the Sacred Heart, in times of discouragement, or when asking for a special favor.
