The Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of every good gift. All that I have comes from You. Create in me a generous heart— a heart that gives without counting the cost, serves without seeking praise, and loves without expecting anything in return. Lord Jesus, You gave everything for me on the Cross. Teach me to give freely of my time, my talents, and my treasure. Free me from selfishness and fear. Help me trust that You will provide for my needs when I give to others in love. Holy Spirit, soften my heart toward the poor, the lonely, and those who suffer. Make me quick to notice opportunities to serve and eager to respond with joy. May my generosity reflect Your mercy. May my giving glorify You. And may my life become a gift for others. Amen.

About This Prayer

This Prayer for Generosity asks God to form a heart that reflects His own self-giving love. True generosity in the Catholic tradition is not only about money, but about giving time, attention, forgiveness, and compassion. It flows from gratitude and trust in God’s providence. Many Catholics look to the example of St. Francis of Assisi, who embraced radical generosity and detachment from worldly wealth in order to love God and serve the poor.

When To Pray

This prayer may be especially meaningful when you are struggling with attachment to material things, making a financial decision, discerning charitable giving, or preparing your heart before Mass. It is also fitting during Lent, stewardship season in your parish, or before serving others in ministry. Praying it regularly can slowly reshape the heart toward joyful, sacrificial love.
