About This Prayer
This Catholic prayer for exam success is directed to St. Joseph of Cupertino (1603–1663), a humble Franciscan friar known as the patron saint of students and exam takers. Tradition recalls that he was once asked in an exam only the very question he had prepared for, which gave rise to his special intercession for students. This prayer asks for clarity, peace, and guidance, reminding us that knowledge is a gift to be used for God’s glory.
The Prayer
O St. Joseph of Cupertino,
who by your prayers obtained from God the grace of being asked only the questions you knew in your examinations,
pray for me as I prepare for my own test.
Intercede for me to the Holy Spirit that my mind may be sharp, my memory clear,
and my heart calm in the face of anxiety.
Help me to succeed in my studies, not only for good results,
but so that I may use my knowledge for the glory of God and the service of others.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

When To Pray
This prayer is often prayed in the days leading up to an exam, while studying, and again on the morning of the test. Many Catholics pray it quietly right before beginning an exam, asking St. Joseph of Cupertino to help them remain calm and recall their preparation with confidence.
