The Prayer

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:12–13

About This Prayer

In this passage, St. Paul reminds the faithful in Colossae of their new identity in Christ. As God’s “chosen ones,” they are called to put on virtues that reflect the very heart of Jesus — compassion for the suffering, kindness in word and action, humility in spirit, gentleness toward others, and patience in enduring trials.
