About This Prayer

Advent is a season of hope, preparation, and expectant waiting as the Church prepares to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It also directs our hearts toward Christ’s promised return, reminding us to remain spiritually awake and ready for him. This prayer asks God to slow our hearts amid the distractions of the season and help us prepare for Christmas through prayer, repentance, generosity, and love. Mary and Joseph are especially meaningful companions during Advent. Both were asked to trust God without knowing everything that lay ahead. Their faithful response encourages us to make room for Christ and to wait for him with the same confidence in God’s promises.

The Prayer

Heavenly Father, As we enter this holy season of Advent, quiet our hearts and prepare us to welcome your Son. In the midst of our business, teach us to wait with hope. When we are anxious, strengthen our trust in you. When distractions fill our days, turn our hearts again toward Christ. May we follow the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who received your will with faith, and St. Joseph, who trusted you even when the path ahead was uncertain. Help us use these days of preparation well, with prayer, repentance, generosity, and love for others. May the coming of Jesus fill our homes with peace and renew within us the joy of knowing that you are near. Come, Lord Jesus, and prepare our hearts for you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
