About This Prayer

The Prayer to Know God’s Will is a short but profound prayer composed by St. Francis of Assisi (1181–1226). It is a traditional Catholic prayer for discernment.  Known for his humility and love of God, St. Francis sought guidance and clarity from the Lord in all decisions of life. This prayer is traditionally invoked when one is discerning important choices — whether about vocation, work, relationships, or spiritual direction. It reflects the Franciscan spirit of surrender to God’s providence, asking for clarity in faith, hope, and love as foundations for making decisions.

The Prayer

Most High, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart. Give me right faith, certain hope, and perfect charity. Give me true insight and wisdom, so that I may always discern Your holy and true will. Amen.
