Sobriety Prayer

About This Prayer
This prayer asks God for strength, perseverance, and grace in the pursuit of sobriety. It invokes St. Monica, whose persistent prayer for her son St. Augustine is a powerful example of refusing to lose hope even through years of difficulty. The prayer focuses particularly on taking sobriety one day at a time while relying upon God’s grace and the support of others.
The Prayer
Dear Jesus,
I come before You asking for the strength to remain sober today. When temptation comes, steady my heart and remind me that Your grace is greater than my weakness. Give me courage to make good choices, humility to seek help when I need it, and perseverance to take each day one step at a time.
Through the intercession of St. Monica, who prayed faithfully through years of struggle and never surrendered hope, help me to persevere when the road feels long. Teach me to trust that no struggle is beyond Your mercy and no life is beyond Your power to renew.
Lord Jesus, free me from everything that keeps me from You. Restore what has been wounded, strengthen those who support me, and lead me toward a life of freedom, peace, and faithfulness.
St. Monica, pray for me.
Amen.
(Please know that this prayer is not intended to be nor a substitute for professional counseling. We pray that you or your loved one may continue on the path to recovery. In Jesus’ name.)
