About This Prayer
Depression can make even ordinary days feel difficult and can leave a person feeling isolated, exhausted, or without hope. This prayer brings that suffering honestly before God without pretending that faith makes every struggle disappear.
Catholics can ask St. Dymphna, traditionally invoked by those experiencing mental and emotional suffering, to intercede for them. Prayer can accompany, and should not replace, appropriate support from family, friends, clergy, counselors, or healthcare professionals.
The Prayer
Heavenly Father,
In the heaviness I carry,
draw near to me.
When sadness clouds my thoughts
and hope feels far away,
remind me that I am never beyond Your loving presence.
Give me strength for this day,
peace when my mind is troubled,
and courage to accept the help and companionship
You place along my path.
Lord Jesus, You know suffering and sorrow.
Stay beside me in the darkness
and lead me gently toward Your light.
Through the intercession of St. Dymphna,
bring comfort to my heart
and renew within me the gift of hope.
Amen.
(NOTE: This prayer is not intended to be nor a substitute for professional counseling. We pray that you or your loved one may continue on the path to mental health and recovery. In Jesus’ name, Amen.)
