Catholic Prayer for Grace

About This Prayer
This prayer is a heartfelt petition to Jesus Christ for the grace of self-knowledge and repentance. It reflects the Catholic teaching that one day each person will stand before Christ, the just Judge, to give an account of their life (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:10). Because sanctifying grace can be lost through mortal sin, the Church encourages Catholics to seek God’s mercy through Confession. This prayer prepares the soul to examine conscience honestly, recognize failings, and receive the sacramental grace of forgiveness.
The Prayer
O my Lord Jesus Christ, Judge of the living and the dead, before whom I must appear one day to give an exact account of my whole life, enlighten me that I may know my sins which I have committed in thought, word, and deed, and give me the grace of true contrition. Amen.
