About This Prayer
The Prayer for Lost Things is one of the most beloved devotions in the Catholic Church, traditionally addressed to Saint Anthony of Padua. Known as the patron saint of lost items, Saint Anthony became associated with this devotion after a story in which a stolen book of his was miraculously returned through prayer.
Beyond simply finding misplaced objects, this prayer has taken on a deeper spiritual meaning. It is often prayed not only for lost possessions, but also for lost peace, lost faith, lost direction, or lost relationships. It reminds us that God cares even about the small concerns of our daily lives and invites us to trust Him fully.
The Prayer
O blessed Saint Anthony, the grace of God has made you a powerful advocate in all our needs. Help me to find what has been lost, and restore it to me if it be God’s holy will.
Grant me also a spirit of peace and trust, that I may not be anxious but confident in God’s loving care.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

When To Pray
This prayer is especially fitting when you have lost something important, whether it is a physical object, an opportunity, or a sense of direction in life. It can be prayed in moments of frustration when searching for something misplaced, but also in deeper moments when you feel spiritually lost or disconnected from God. Many people pray it immediately when they realize something is missing, and again in quiet reflection as they entrust the situation to God’s care.
