About

Saint Teresa of Avila was a Catholic nun and writer who loved Jesus very much. She was born in Avila, Spain in 1515. As a young girl, she liked to read stories about saints and wanted to become one. When she grew up, she became a Carmelite nun. She wanted the nuns to live more simply and pray more deeply, so she helped change the Carmelite Order to be closer to how it was in the beginning. She also had special moments of prayer where she felt very close to God. She wrote books to help others grow in prayer, including The Interior Castle, which explains how our soul is like a castle with many rooms, and God lives in the center.

Legacy

Saint Teresa of Avila taught people how to pray in a deep and loving way. She showed that prayer is more than words—it’s a friendship with God. Because of her wisdom, the Church made her a Doctor of the Church, which means her teachings are very important. She helped start many Carmelite convents that still exist today. Her writings continue to help people become closer to Jesus. She is known for her courage, joyful spirit, and trust in God even during hard times.
“Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing; God never changes.” — Saint Teresa of Avila
