About

St John the Apostle was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples and is often called the “beloved disciple.” He was the younger brother of James and the son of Zebedee, both of whom were fishermen. Jesus called John to leave his boat and follow Him, and John remained loyal to Christ throughout His ministry. St John was present at key moments in Jesus’ life, including the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. He is traditionally believed to be the author of the Gospel of John, three New Testament letters, and the Book of Revelation.

Legacy

The legacy of St John the Apostle lives on in his deep love for Christ and his powerful writings. His Gospel emphasizes Jesus as the Son of God and the Light of the World. John’s teachings focus on truth, love, and eternal life through Jesus. He is also remembered for staying with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, after the Crucifixion—fulfilling Jesus’ request from the Cross. John is honored as a great theologian, mystic, and the only apostle believed to have died a natural death.
“St. John, the apostle of love, shows us how to see Jesus more clearly and love Him more dearly.” — Pope Benedict XVI
