Saint Luke Novena

summary

The Saint Luke Novena is a nine-day Catholic devotion to Saint Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of doctors, artists, and all who seek healing. Luke, often called the “beloved physician,” was a companion of Saint Paul and the inspired author of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. This novena seeks his intercession for healing of body, mind, and soul, and for deeper love of Christ and His Word.

When to Pray

The novena is traditionally prayed from October 10–18, leading up to Saint Luke’s feast day on October 18. It may also be prayed at any time of year for those seeking healing or praying for doctors, nurses, and caregivers.

Day 1

O glorious Saint Luke, faithful companion of Saint Paul and beloved physician, you used your gifts of healing to care for the sick and your gift of writing to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. Intercede for me today as I begin this novena. Ask the Lord to heal me in mind, body, and spirit, and to grant me the grace to trust in His mercy. May I grow closer to God through your example of service and faith. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 2

Saint Luke, you listened to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and recorded the life of Christ with love and accuracy. Inspire me to love the Word of God and to live by it each day. Pray that I may be a faithful witness to Christ in my words and actions. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 3

Saint Luke, you are called the “beloved physician.” I turn to you on behalf of those who are sick and suffering. Intercede for them before the throne of God, that they may receive healing, comfort, and peace. May I never tire of offering compassion and care to those in need. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 4

Saint Luke, in your Gospel you reveal Jesus as the friend of sinners and the poor. Help me to imitate His compassion, reaching out to those who are forgotten or rejected. Pray that I may have a heart open to mercy and a spirit willing to serve. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 5

Saint Luke, your writings show the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the early Church. Pray that I may be open to the Spirit’s guidance in my own life. May I allow God to lead me with courage, trusting that His plans are always for my good. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 6

Saint Luke, you remind us that the Kingdom of God is among us. Help me to live with faith, hope, and love, always mindful of Christ’s presence in my daily life. Inspire me to share His Good News with others by the way I live. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 7

Saint Luke, you recorded the canticles of Mary, Zechariah, and Simeon, giving us hymns of praise that still guide the Church’s prayer. Teach me to live a life of gratitude and joy. Help me to praise God in all circumstances and to find strength in His promises. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 8

Saint Luke, you traveled with Saint Paul and endured hardship for the sake of the Gospel. Pray that I may persevere in faith during times of trial. May I never lose sight of the hope that Christ offers and may I remain faithful to Him until the end. (Mention your intention) Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Day 9

Saint Luke, faithful servant of God, patron of physicians and healer of souls, I thank you for your example and intercession throughout this novena. Present my petitions before the Lord, that His will may be done in my life. May I grow in faith, love, and courage, and one day rejoice with you in the eternal Kingdom.
