About This Prayer
The Memorare Prayer is a beloved Catholic devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that emphasizes her role as a powerful intercessor. The word “Memorare” is Latin for “Remember”, echoing the opening plea for Mary to remember her children in need. This prayer gained wide popularity in the 17th century through St. Francis de Sales and later through Fr. Claude Bernard, who promoted it as a prayer of confidence in Mary’s unfailing help. Over centuries, the Memorare has been a source of comfort for countless Catholics who seek Mary’s intercession in times of trial.
The Prayer
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
