About This Prayer
The Prayer of Archangel Michael, aka the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel, is one of the most powerful and widely known prayers for spiritual protection in the Catholic Church. It was composed by Pope Leo XIII in the late 19th century after a profound spiritual experience in which he perceived the need for greater defense against evil in the world.
This prayer calls upon Saint Michael, the leader of the heavenly armies, to defend us in spiritual battle. It reflects the reality of spiritual warfare and reminds the faithful that God provides protection through His angels. Many Catholics continue to pray this prayer daily, especially after Mass, asking for strength, protection, and perseverance in faith.
The Prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
